Frequently asked questions
ChatPiP does not open automatically
Start video playback once, allow Automatic Picture-in-Picture for the site when Chrome asks, then switch to another tab or place Chrome behind another application. ChatPiP does not open for ordinary clicks, menus or address-bar focus. Automatic PiP requires Chrome 134 or newer.
The video opens, but live chat is missing
Confirm that the video has an active chat, reload the stream tab after installing or updating ChatPiP, and open PiP again. YouTube may fall back to a local read-only view if its pop-out chat cannot be embedded. Chat replay and hidden chat can be limited by the platform.
How do I combine YouTube and Twitch chat?
- Open the matching YouTube and Twitch livestreams in separate tabs.
- Switch to the tab whose video you want to watch and open ChatPiP.
- Press ＋ in the PiP window and choose Second chat.
- Select the stream on the other platform, optionally ticking Save preset.
How do I start the Chrome trial?
Choose Try free for 7 days, enter your email, then paste the key we send into ChatPiP. You get every feature for seven days. No card is needed and nothing renews automatically.
How do I buy or restore ChatPiP for Chrome?
After the trial, choose Buy for €4.99. Tax may be added based on your location. To activate or restore access, paste the key from your email and choose Activate. Device management is available in the Freemius customer portal.
A stream cannot be added to ChatPiP
Press ＋ on a pane in the PiP window and choose a favorite, an open stream, or enter a Twitch/YouTube channel. The stream plays in the platform’s own embedded player, so no tab has to stay open. A channel whose owner forbids embedding can only be watched on its own page, and a YouTube channel can be added only while it is live. Chrome holds up to 16 streams.
An added stream stops or shows a play button
Twitch pauses its embedded player while anything covers it, such as a menu or a notice; ChatPiP starts it again as soon as nothing covers it. A stream you paused in its own player stays paused until you start it. A pane smaller than the platform’s minimum player size unloads the player; click the note in it to move the stream into the large pane.
How do I reset a streamer layout?
Open that streamer’s YouTube or Twitch tab, open ChatPiP and choose Reset layout in the gear menu of the PiP window. The channel then uses your global settings again. Removing the extension clears all ChatPiP extension storage.
Is Safari supported?
Not yet. ChatPiP currently runs in Chrome on desktop only. Phones and tablets are not supported.
Does ChatPiP collect or upload my streams and chats?
No. ChatPiP processes selected media, visible chat and preferences on your device. See the full Privacy Policy.
